How Christian Principles Could Reshape America
Abolish Private Prisons, For‑Profit Hospitals, and Complicated Taxes
I’ve taken lately to thinking about my own Government platform and how I believe a foundational belief in the Christian faith (of The Bible, not religion) would ground the programs / initiatives.
While I am not in a position to make this happen, I love the what-if exercise and I appreciate it for what it is: a statement of my position solidified in my faith.
Prisons
No private prisons → Justice should never be commodified.
No death penalty → Life is sacred; punishment must not end it.
Life in prison means life → Reserved for the gravest crimes, with dignity but no release.
Fewer prisons overall → Invest in prevention, education, and community support to reduce incarceration.
Rehabilitation over time served → Sentences measured by transformation, not calendars.
Upgraded, humane prisons → Clean, safe, restorative environments that reflect dignity.
Mandatory education and skill-building → Every inmate leaves with tools for life.
Faith-based and community mentorship programs → Voluntary but available, grounding rehabilitation in hope.
Health Care
No for-profit direct care → Healing is not a business transaction.
75% of profits pay down oldest medical debt → A Jubilee principle: cancel burdens before they crush generations.
Universal baseline care → Preventive and emergency services guaranteed for all.
Mental health parity → Equal funding and access for psychological care as for physical care.
Nutrition and wellness programs → Government-supported initiatives to reduce chronic illness through education and access.
Faith-informed chaplaincy in hospitals → Optional spiritual support integrated into care.
Taxes
Flat 20% for all persons → Simplicity, fairness, transparency.
Corporations taxed as today → But with stricter accountability for loopholes.
Unused tax revenue split → Half to national debt, half returned to individuals.
Annual “Jubilee audit” → Every 7 years, review debt and taxation structures for fairness.
No hidden fees or surcharges → All government revenue must be visible and accountable.
Person Care
Merge Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, SNAP → One streamlined system.
Guaranteed housing and food → Apartments and meals provided, non-taxed, government-run.
Mandatory volunteering → Recipients contribute to community, reinforcing dignity and shared responsibility.
Integrated support services → Counseling, job training, addiction recovery, parenting classes.
Faith-based mentorship option → Volunteers from churches and nonprofits walk alongside individuals.
Childcare included → Families supported holistically, not piecemeal.
Immigration
Background checks for all → Safety and trust.
Assigned US mentor → Every immigrant paired with a citizen guide.
Resident status application streamlined → No mandatory court hearings.
Mandatory volunteering → Immigrants contribute to community while receiving support.
Language and cultural education → Classes provided to ease integration.
Pathway to citizenship tied to service → Demonstrated commitment to community accelerates status.
Education
Universal access to quality education → Public schools funded equitably.
Faith-informed ethics curriculum → Teaching justice, mercy, stewardship without sectarianism.
Debt-free higher education for service → College tuition waived for those who volunteer or serve.
Trade schools elevated → Equal dignity for vocational training.
Teacher salaries protected → Educators valued as nation-builders.
Environment
Stewardship as biblical mandate → Care for creation is care for future generations.
No profit-driven exploitation of land → Resource extraction regulated by sustainability.
National reforestation and conservation programs → Citizens volunteer to restore creation.
Clean water and air guaranteed → Infrastructure prioritized over profit.
Faith-based eco-mentorship → Churches and nonprofits lead local stewardship projects.
Governance
Transparency as default → All government budgets and decisions publicly accessible.
Citizen assemblies → Local communities empowered to advise on policy.
Term limits for Congress → Prevent entrenched power.
Sabbath principle in governance → Mandatory rest periods for government workers, preventing burnout.
Annual “Service Day” → Nationwide volunteering day, reinforcing unity.
This platform ties each initiative back to biblical values: justice without exploitation, mercy without chaos, stewardship without neglect. It’s not “religion” but the lived ethic of faith — grounding government in care for the least, accountability for the powerful, and dignity for all.
